Instituted: 2 February 1994.
Awarded: To citizens of the Slovak Republic who have served in an extraordinary manner in the areas of democracy and human rights, and the defense and security of the Slovak Republic or have demonstrated extraordinary merit in the areas of politics, state management and administration, development of the national economy, science and technology, culture, art, education, and sports and for significantly spreading the good name of the Slovak Republic abroad.
Grades: 3 in 2 divisions, civilian and military.
