New Zealand: Victoria Cross

Ribbon: Crimson. A miniature cross is borne on the ribbon when ribbons only are worn.

Instituted: 29 January 1856 by Queen Victoria.
Discontinued: 1999, and replaced by the Victoria Cross for New Zealand.

Awarded: For outstanding acts of valour or of devotion to duty in the face of the enemy or other belligerents.
