Instituted: 1929.

Awarded: By a paramilitary organisation created in 1919 to defend Latvia’s new independence from Russia. They supported the dissolution of Latvian parliamentary democracy by Karlis Ulmanis on 15 May 1934, and until the Soviet invasion of 1940 acted as paramilitary police with the authority of the state.
