Instituted: 1 May 1937, reorganised 27 December 1943.
Discontinued: 1945.

Awarded: Mostly to foreigners supportive of the Third Reich, and for diplomatic services.

Grades: 6 (plus a special 'Grand Cross of the Order of the German Eagle in Gold with Diamonds' awarded to Benito Mussolini alone).
